About the event

Harry Potter is a phenomenon, and a well-loved character to many. He is a hero that exemplifies that being different is okay and that with the support of others, great things can happen - with or without magic!

Come and explore how the experiences of Harry Potter are very similar to the Deaf World. Upon completion, you will be empowered to work with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students (and adults) with a better understanding of their identity and lived experiences.

Presenter Bio:

Christy Jeffery is a Teacher of the Deaf. Born Deaf to hearing parents, Christy grew up in two worlds: at home in Northern Ontario with her family, and at a Deaf school in Southern Ontario. Christy holds a bachelor's degree in English from Gallaudet University in Washington, DC and a master's degree in Bilingual Deaf Education from McDaniel College in Maryland. For the past 14 years, Christy has been teaching Deaf and Hard of Hearing teenagers and adults across the United States and Canada.
